Let me start off by saying that as I am writing this blog my kids are screaming at each other and fighting while running around the house like little Tasmanian devils..
Being a mom is so hard, being a working mom is so hard, and being a stay at home mom is so hard.
I am experiencing ALL of those hard things at once.
I run my own business from home. I make and sell home decor items on Etsy and I work every day.
I have been a stay at home mom since my oldest was born 4.5 years ago.
It has always been hard but now staying home with them and running a business at the same time is absolutely one of the hardest things I've done. I know I am not alone in this so here are a few things that help me get through the tough days.
The BIGGEST thing that has saved me from this madness is everyday after lunch my girls have quiet time in their room. Usually for about an hour. I'll give them a snack and make sure they have toys to play with. They can take a nap or just play. I keep the door shut, otherwise Genevieve (our 2 year old) will wander out every 5 minutes and get into things. While they are in their room I get as much work done as I can!
I am thinking of getting a tablet or 2 for them this Christmas while they are cooped up inside, which brings us to our next saving grace..
Playing outside! We live in Washington state and if you live here you know how bad the smoke gets in the summer. Today it is actually hazardous so when it gets this bad we are cooped up all day. But when we are actually able to see past our yard (thanks, smoke) the kids are outside pretty much all day. I have my work stations set up so that I can work and see them through the window at the same time.
Another thing that helps me juggle working while the kids are going bananas is giving them a task. Of course you have to make it fun or a competition like "Who can pick up the most pieces of garbage in 5 minutes? And GO!"
Or bribery also works (hey don't judge).
I'll ask them to clean up all their toys and if they do a good job I will give them a cookie or a quarter.
The last thing that is a huge help is getting a sitter for a few days a week.
Now I JUST started doing this a few days ago so they've only been gone once but in that 1 day I got SO much work done!
They get to visit their grandma so grandma is happy, the girls are happy and I am happy.
I should also add that I do have to make time to spend with my girls without the distractions of work. As a family we like to do outings together like getting lunch or going shopping. When I am caught up on orders we occasionally get to make a trip out of town or go camping or to the water park. It's important for Kodi and I to teach the girls how to work hard and to teach them how important family is.
Though being a mom is tough, it is such a blessing and I truly am very lucky and grateful.
If you have any more ideas on juggling all the madness let me know!
